OCR: 1957 ] In 1957, the Canadian government decided to make minor modifications to the Canadian coat of Arms. In 1921, the description of the maple leaves on the shield as "proper" had been interpreted as green. Since "proper" means natural, the government decided to colour the leaves and stem gules or red, in accordance with Canada's national colours of white and red. The design of the Irish harp was simplified and, at the wishes of Queen Elizabeth Il. the St. Edward's Crown replaced the Tudor Crown that surmounted the whole design.
